Patakín: The Congos were very backward and went to the house of Orunmila, who instructed them to cut down all the trees except the strawberry tree (fresa). They did so, and when they finished, they piled up the wood and notified Orunmila. He asked for a gourd with which he prepared sara ekó, adding ashé, turned it over on the pile of wood, and covered it with the gourd. After a short while, a new generation of that plant arrived — and with it, prosperity.

Nota: To the person who receives this Ifá: they were born in a caul (zurrón) or are a twin (jimagua), and they have great luck. Everything they set out to do, they achieve. They must receive Ifá.

Patakín: Erdibre was a man of great intelligence; he was the cook of Obatalá. He always finished his duties very early and would retire to amuse himself, because he was very fond of dancing, music, and women. For all this, the others in the house were envious of him and said he did not work, that he was very lazy. They went so far as to convince Baba (Obatalá), who threw him out of the house.

Erdibre began to struggle, reaching the point of having nothing to eat, until he came before Orunmila who, upon consulting the sign for him, told him: "People are envious of you and have worked against you through the air to harm you. You never carry the baskets to go to the market, and for that reason they have convinced Baba that you are very proud and lazy. You must make ebbo with a basket and a worn-out bag. After the ebbo, you must always carry the bag with you everywhere."

Erdibre managed to obtain the bag from Obatalá's house, made the ebbo, and began to go about with it. He went to the market with it, and the necessity of not having anything to do obliged him to sell herbs, even though he had been Baba's cook.

Obatalá went out into the street and everywhere he encountered Erdibre — in the market, on the street, on promenades, and wherever he went, Erdibre always had the bag in his hand. This convinced Obatalá that Erdibre was neither lazy nor proud.

Then Obatalá posted an announcement saying he needed a man, without saying for what. As people arrived, he rejected them because none were cooks. Erdibre saw the announcement, and necessity obliged him to present himself before Baba to ask for the job, telling him that he was in need of work and would take on whatever was ordered of him. Then Obatalá became convinced of the lie that had been told him, discovered the enemies of Erdibre, and made him head of the house.

After making the ebbo with the bag and always going about with it, the next day after accepting Baba's employment another job appeared where they needed the man with the bag. He postponed it to the next day, and so he always had employment.

Nota: You have a worn-out bag/wallet and must make ebbo with it. When you have the bag, business will come to you; when one is finished, another will come, and you will always have employment.

Nota: You must always maintain a regular eating schedule, because your stomach may be unwell and gases will give you very bad results. You must take great care of your head, not leave your hat anywhere, and always keep your head covered. Because they cannot harm you personally, since they fear you, they may employ the wind to blow bad powders on you.
