The Life of Odi Osa

The continuous biography of this odù's own spiritual evolution — celestial works, then earthly works — told as one unfolding life. Click any title to read it.

Odu Invocation and Source Provenance

Translator's note: All ritual, medical, and sacrificial statements below are reproduced as the source presents them; they are attributed source material, not advice. Yoruba-derived ritual formulas, prayers, and rezo lines are reproduced exactly as printed, without translation or correction; runs of multiple spaces are collapsed to single spaces, with no word changed, added, or removed. Yoruba-derived words are retained in the source's spelling; where the source does not explain a term or leaves a referent open, the translation does not supply a meaning. In the ebbó lists, ordinary Spanish is translated and Yoruba-derived terms are retained as printed.

Opening rezo (preserved verbatim):

Odí Sa Odí mayere mañana le yere iyalede mama wa amoiya wa yere omo oshunguere iya iede babinu omo oshunguero fumi shere.

Source provenance. Translation of odu 70, Odí Sa, from the individual extract 070 Odi Osa — Tratado fuente (Google Docs). The linked document is an individual extract containing the formal material and five numbered story headings (1–5).

The Hawk

›

Patakin:

The hawk was stealing adie from the cage, and when they went to catch it, it took an eyele and gave food to its lemi (a term the source does not explain). Because the hawk was fun fun (white), it disguised itself with the eyerbale of the eyele, and they did not catch it.
