01The Two Servants
LOS DOS CRIADOS›
Patakín: It came to pass one time that Orunmila had two servants in his house. One was Ofun Di, who was charged with disposing of the ebboses that he made for his clients and godchildren; the other was Odi Fumbo, who occupied himself with running his errands and cleaning his house.
One day Orunmila made himself an osodde and saw this Ifá, which recommended to him that he look closely, because the eboses he was making for his godchildren and for his clients were not giving results, since they were not reaching their destinations with any effectiveness. And Orunmila began to doubt the loyalty of his servant Ofun Di, and he called Odi Fumbo and asked him: where is Ofun Di, whom I sent to carry an ebbo and who has still not returned? Odi Fumbo answered him: Baba, Ofun Di is stealing the things of the ebbo from you.
Orunmila realized that Ofun Di was a thief, and that his eboses could never take effect nor his children prosper.
Then he said to Odi Fumbo: "You will remain forever, to seal the ebboses."
When Ofun Di returned to Orunmila's house and learned of the problem, he said to Odi Fumbo: "You are a traitor, for you have betrayed me." Odi Fumbo answered him: "The traitor is you, who have betrayed Orunmila and Olofin, for you were the trust of them both."
02The False Diviner
EL FALSO ADIVINO›

Rezo: Ofun Di mamowo eri efun emi alaran adifafun leri otori boshe niko obesawa awo emibede awasha. Shango etu siwo oni lekun ni ishe ishe eni lekun.
Suyere: Eyele dun dun mawa. Eggun dun dun mawa. Eyele fun fun mawa. Eggun fun fun mawa.
Ebbo: One etú, ewe oyekun leri, bogbo igui, ewe sodi fifeshu, one eyele dun dun, etú mewa eggun, the remaining ingredients, opolopo owo.
Nota: The Awo who possesses this sign must keep a sponge behind the door of his house, with 7 príncipes rojos, salvadera, and siempreviva; and every month he will turn the sponge over and will give it one eyele dun dun and one fun fun.
Patakín: In this sign was born the false diviner, who was omo Elegba; and Elegba cast him out for the quantity of his lying, and he went to live in the land Tobari Lala Awo Leri Mashe. Before entering that land he met with Shangó, and Shangó spoke to him, but this one did not understand; and so Shangó laid his hands upon his leri and gave him akuko meyi and prayed over him:
Omi le mafun oforun maliye ori boshe ebebio ori obalele eggun onile obewa eggun eggun obatishe.
Then an aboran appeared with a sponge and 7 príncipes negros — Shangó Obari Keke — and that agboran lele (shadow) was speaking with Shangó, and said to him: the Eggun do not speak. And so he fed it, together with the sponges, in the mouth.
After this ceremony he said: put out your tongue and try to speak. And he also gave him akuaro meyi, but still he did not speak. Then Shangó began to sing and to eat what the sponge held, and the fortune of Ofun Di was scattered abroad.
Eni Laye — and he began to pray to Shangó, in spite of the fact that this one is not your son, since Elegba is his father; but he will be greater than his father.
I take out my own eyes so that you may give me the fortune of being a great diviner, because you hold power. Because he will never know the curses that the brain must carry which was born into the world without ashé for a diviner — and Shangó will have to give him the powers.
Ekun omo wa Shango da kueyo. Ozain ojun yawa leri etu mashe awa tisge kesa kewa.
Upon the tongue he gave eye of etú to Awoni Boshe Awo; and when he gave him that with the sponge, the Awo's leri went on being set right.
Then Shangó said to his iyá, Ina Le Laye, that she should set his children to eat with that sponge, Mashewe Eye; and the feet are given to eat at the entrance of the town, in the land Tebaro Ala — and to feed the feet so that all the world may arrive. Now they would have to believe in everything he said.
Shangó went out onto the road and said the following where Olofin was, confirming what had been promised to Ofun Di:
Baba ojue la bashe Olofin otori boshe ori oforun okoni koshe oforun ori lala Olofin oyu batishe oyu beni aye oni lorun otori boshe bawa oshe Ofun Di Olofin.
Olofin gave foribale to Shangó and said to him: you will be the great secret, the great diviner and liar.
Shangó said to Olofin: when the heat of the earth comes, everyone speaks.
