01Oshun and Jealousy
Oshún y los Celos›
There was once a marriage between Shango and Oshun. Shango, the husband, was a great merchant, and his business occupied much of his time. His wife Oshun became jealous because he did not attend to her, and she suffered greatly because her husband was much sought after, especially by the women with whom he conducted most of his business. Oshun was deeply in love with Shango and constantly watched him out of jealousy.
Unable to bear being separated from her husband, Oshun began working beside him. Her jealousy continued, however, and she scarcely allowed Shango to move freely, even though he needed to attend to his customers.
One day Oshun could no longer contain her jealousy. In a fit of anger, she killed Shango without having any reason to do so.
Note: The owner of this Ifá should not live with a jealous woman, especially not a daughter of Oshun, because there is a risk that she may kill him.
Maferefun Shango, lodafun Oshun.
02On the Path of Lucifer (Abita)
En el Camino de Lucifer›
Rezo: Oyekun Iroso, awo ote Olofin tulo awo adu merin oti awo inobo ebeyo ala ori gogo intori aye kurrrbo oto-be eyele abo lebo intori Iku.
Ebbó: Three osiadie, two malaguidi, white and red garments, timbelara, atitan ile, eku, eya, awado, oñi, obi, itana, and a large amount of money.
Distribution: One osiadie is for the Ibeji, with Shango placed beside them; one osiadie is for the oparaldo; and one osiadie is used to give unyén to the Devil. This is done with a rattle. A joro joro is opened, and after feeding him, eku, eya, awado, epo, oñi, and oti are placed inside.
Ifá says that on one occasion the earth was without a government, and Olofin did not know what to do. He began sending the saints to see what they could do to remedy the situation, but they all fought for supremacy.
When Olofin realized this, he sent Abita,"the Devil." The Devil descended to earth, and the first thing he did was gather everyone together and tell them to unite and stop fighting among themselves. Upon arriving, however, the Devil took control of the situation and consequently became master of the earth. (Essentially, he couldn't beat them, so he joined them and became their leader)
On one occasion, while he was giving them orders, the Ibeji appeared and told him, "Liar, cheat, you are not doing what you were sent to do." The Devil, who had the appearance of a twenty-three-year-old youth, began to change: his ears became pointed, his eyes turned bright red, his nails grew excessively long, horns emerged from his forehead, and a tail appeared as well.
The saints recognized him immediately and cried out desperately, "Disappear, Satan!" He disappeared, and nothing more was known of him - neither where he lives nor where he is. Therefore, he may be anywhere on earth, because he did not return to heaven.
Note: On this path and in this odu, to keep the Devil quiet, a hole is opened in the earth and he is regularly fed eku, eya, epo, awado, oti, and oñi. The hole is covered, and a rattle is sounded so that he moves away from the person's side.
