Oyeku Ogunda (Oyeku Ogunda · Oyeku Ogunda)

A trusted servant is slandered for forgetting the salt until Obatalá tastes the food himself, a greedy dog loses both halves of a stolen gandinga to its own reflection, and Orunmila's spirit-body — the very spirituality of Ifá — is born in a sign that warns against avarice and poison in the same breath.

The Spirit of Orunmila

Aquí nació la espiritualidad de Ifá. Es el espíritu de Orunmila personificado. In this oddun the spirituality of Ifá was born. It is the spirit of Orunmila personified. If Ogunda Yeku (his tonti abure, in the source's wording) is the material personification of Orunmila, this oddun, Oyekun Tekunda, is his spiritual personification. The Tratado also says: "In this oddun Orunmila gives Oshun the command to cast the dilogún." Sources: Part 3, Nace and Descripción.

Patakín 1 — The Greedy One

›

Ebbo: a rooster, gandinga [giblets] and a dog.

Patakín: On this road a certain dog once went to the slaughterhouse and stole a gandinga; as he was carrying the gandinga, on crossing the river, as is natural, the gandinga was reflected in the water and he saw it as much larger than the one he was carrying in his mouth. The dog, seeing the gandinga so large, dropped the prize from his mouth to seize the one he saw as much bulkier, and the first one fell into the water. And through greed he was left without the one and without the other.
